The village of Pisciotta is of medieval origin and it is well-known for its ancient beauty. The Palazzo Marchesale, was built on the remains of a medieval castle belonging to the Pappacoda family. It was feudatory until 1806, when feudalism was abolished. The Palazzo Ciaccio, from the 500s, contains precious works of art such as a painting of S.Francis, which escaped the fire started by the Turks in 1640.
From the hill, where the historical centre is erected, to the port, you can witness a spectacular view of century old olive groves. Excellent olive oil is obtained from the pressing of these olives and the oil produced is certified DOP. In fact, it has been given the name "Pisciottana".
This setting is spectacular in summer and winter. In autumn the nets used to gather the olives cover the ground and create a gallery effect between the dry winding roads. The famous Olive Marathon is also linked to this area and it is a 17km route (Pisciotta-Rodio and back), first organized in 1978.
